Coco (l) and Cookie found new homes just in time.

Whoohoo! This is what happens when people band together through email, blogs, word of mouth and other avenues. Cookie & Coco have found new forever homes…and together I might add!

Here’s the information from the owners:

Hello,

If you are contacting me in regards to offer a home for my 2 labs, I appreciate the inquiry but I have already found them a great home where they can be together here in Southern California.

I apologize for the automatic reply, but to date I have received over 2,500 inquiries. If you can send this reply back to all that have sent it to you, I would be so grateful as it will spread the good news about Cookie and Coco faster.

Thanks,

Sarah

  1. Sarah,

I am so happy for Cookie and Coco! I live here in Ithaca, NY. When my hairdresser told me about this, I called everyone I knew, (I can’t have large dogs) and decided to put an ad on Craig’s List. I have had 24 replies in 15 hours. I’ve added to the ad on Craigs List that Coco and Cookie are in a new home together!~!!

This is totally a hoax – and I am embarrassed that I thought, even for a minute, to forward something to other people.

If anyone takes 1 minute to search the Internet for stories on “Cookie and Coco” they will quickly notice that these dogs are looking for a home in California from Sarah, Georgia, Hackensack NJ from Karen, etc., etc. The same letter, the same picture — apparently this was a hoax from 2 years ago that just resurfaced.

So do yourself a favor and don’t waste your time forwarding e-mails or feeling bad for these owners and dogs as they go through a difficult time — IT IS FAKE!! Anyone who says differently is a liar – or doesn’t know what they are talking about.

    • interesting! I didn’t see anything on snopes but I did find something from 2005. I usually trust the source I get these from because she rescues animals all the time. Thanks! I will make sure it’s real before I post anything again. Most of the things I get are real.

  3. Oh, for crying out loud!!!!!!! Sorry I was fooled! I am such an animal lover, and I guess that’s what they are looking for. One question, what do they get out of this. I got about 150 responses! These people should be put in the dog pound!!!!

  4. It’s crazy. I promise to make sure each and every time before I post about animals that need to be adopted. Blah! I promise you that the stuff I usually post is legitimate. Some of the animals get adopted before I even post the information (stuff that I get from that same source). I guess we’ve all been taken for a ride because we are animal lovers (and the fact that it wasn’t on snopes.com).

I didn’t initially think it was a hoax and still am not sure really. So, there the email got circulated around the country, who cares? If it really was a hoax, all I have to say is that people are really sick and whoever started this one should be separated and euthanized because it just makes people not want to help the next time there really are dogs needing homes, especially in this economy and this could be a real situation for many pet owners…

    • I think it may have been legitimate at first but then after the dogs got adopted the email kept going around. I just found another website saying they need to be adopted although they’ve already been adopted (so I think). Here’s a link to a bunch of listings about cookie and coco: COOKIE AND COCO!

This happened a few years back. I got an email about a litter of puppies that needed to be adopted. Someone called the people and found out they were already adopted a long time before. It was on snopes.com. But yeah you’re right…it takes away from animals that really need to be adopted. I promise to research everything before I post things again.

    • and if you notice all the listings have different locations of where the dogs are at. Crazy!

This went around Davenport, Iowa with a different picture. We checked into it and in
    our case it was true.

This is now posted on Snopes as true but outdated. It was in California that the original e-mail was sent, but in January. This really multiplied because of all the dog-lovers online. I’m glad they have been adopted together!

  8. Lynne

    this is on Snopes.com… http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/cookiecoco.asp

It is stated as a TRUE story but outdated and continues to be in circulation

  9. I know it’s on snopes. Before it got onto snopes I messaged them about it. Then I got information from someone that was writing a story about them. Snopes emailed me back saying that it was true but outdated. They finally added it onto snopes. It wasn’t there in the beginning. LOL!!!
